Why Sony Lost Crash Bandicoot After 6 Million Sales
Crash Bandicoot sold over 6 million, and Sony still lost him.
The catch sits in a 1996 contract. Naughty Dog signed with Universal Interactive, and Sony only came on as publisher. Universal even fought the Crash name.
Then the Universal and Sony deal ended in 2000. If you played what came next, you got new studios and mixed reviews. The N. Sane Trilogy remaster still costs you $39.99 on Steam.
The verdict: Sony never held Crash, so it couldn't keep him. The deal was Universal's, and Crash followed the contract.
