6 Resident Evil Games Ranked Worst To Best

Six Resident Evil games, ranked by survival horror tension and how well they play today.

Resident Evil 6 hit PC in 2013 with a 69 Metacritic; action swallowed the horror whole. Resident Evil 5 scored 86 on Metacritic in 2009; great co-op, but sunshine kills the dread.

Resident Evil 0's 2016 remaster sits at 80% positive on Steam; classic fear, clunky partner swapping. Village landed in 2021, now 96% positive on Steam; the castle chills, then it turns action.

The 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake scored 91; tense and polished, though more thriller than horror. Resident Evil 7 went first-person in 2017, 95% positive on Steam; the Baker house is pure dread.

Our pick: Resident Evil 7 wins because it stripped the series back to scarce ammo, locked doors and a family that will not stay dead. In Pulse's opinion, no other entry here keeps you this tense from start to finish, and it still plays beautifully today.
