Why Konami Remade Metal Gear Solid 3 After Quitting AAA
Konami quit big console games in 2015, then remade Snake Eater.
Its last Metal Gear, 2018's Survive, came out without Kojima and flopped. Konami says it chose Snake Eater as the origin story for the series and its key characters.
That bet paid off, with over 1 million sales in 24 hours and 2 million by March 2026.
The verdict: In fairness, Rolling Stone called it reheated leftovers. But the series' first chapter is the safest restart without its creator. If you skipped the 2004 original, this is your way in.
